Our society was formed in 1957 under the chairmanship of Rev. Geoffrey Edmunds, author of ‘A History of Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross’. Our President is Dr Audrey Baker.
The objectives of the Society are to investigate the history of the locality and also to foster interest in general historical subjects. We meet for an illustrated talk six times a year on the last Friday of the month at 8pm. We also plan to visit an historical site during the year.
In the last few years, many of the talks have been on the history of places in South Buckinghamshire, Amersham, Marlow, Slough Museum, Denham, Hedgerley and Chesham. Other topics were on silver, coinage, old maps, wall paintings, the Bayeux Tapestry, Mayan civilisation, discoverers of America and Japan.
Visitors are always welcome at a nominal charge of £2.50.
