The Chess Club started in 1946 at the Gayhurst School and in 1947 relocated to the Memorial Centre as one of the original clubs to use the site – hence its special status as a ‘Centre Section’.
The Club is still very active in local Chess to this day, running two teams in the Bucks Chess League, supporting its members playing in the Bucks Individual Championship and encouraging members to play in some of the many Chess Tournaments now available around the country. The Club has its own competitions from time to time and has hosted simultaneous exhibitions and social matches with other Clubs.
The Club provides equipment for the use of members, and whilst it has been meeting on Thursdays for some years it will now be meeting on Wednesdays from September 2010 so prospective players who were not able to come along on Thursday may now be able to join us! The Club welcomes anyone who wants to play chess, including juniors. Chess is a game you can enjoy and compete in for the whole of your life. ’Lapsed’ players can always take it up again.
