VOLUNTEER ROLES
Jumble Sale
The annual GXCA jumble sale takes a lot of planning and work but is a lovely opportunity to meet new people and enjoy being part of a wonderful team to raise huge funds for the GXCA. Teams of people with various skills and abilities are needed to sell tickets, set up tables and stalls, move all stock from storage into the required tent or building, sort donations into categories, price and sell goods, provide catering services to customers and volunteers, tidying stock at the end of the sale etc. The jumble sale has large marquees as well as the centre buildings the marquees are put up by contractors so volunteers would not be expected to do that.
Loft/Antique Sale
These sales are similar to the jumble sale but smaller and generally indoors, but tables are sold to individuals to sell their own stock. We would need people to set up stalls, sell entrance tickets, assist sellers with questions, provide catering services and to help with the clear up.
Gardening
At GXCA we have beautiful gardens which we rely on a group of volunteers to maintain. The walled garden is especially used for our weddings and a lovely place to have photos. We need all types of skills in the gardens from pruning to planting or weeding.
Event Setup (Light)
Events have a number of tasks to ensure our guests and customers have a time to remember. Light duties might be something like doing table settings for weddings and parties including cutlery, crockery and glassware and linens. It could equally be serving drinks to guests or collecting glasses. It is a lovely chance to meet and work with others and contribute to our guest’s experience.
Event Setup (Lift)
This is similar to the above but would include heavier duties such as moving and setting up tables and chairs. This may also include acting as a marshal for our car park or for crowds at our fireworks event.
Bar Staff/Cafe
We do not currently have a fulltime bar person or cafe manager and sometimes need bar staff or cafe staff for functions, clubs or for holiday cover of our usual staff. This is a great chance to be part of a team and meet and greet our customers. You could either have experience of working in a bar/cafe or we could teach you.
BBQs
BBQ's are a key part of our catering services for any event that we throw outside, for example at our outdoor music event's, our annual fireworks and jumble sale. This role involves working with a team to cook, serve and take money for our food and drinks. Working closely with the team to ensure we can feed all of our guests.
Grounds Maintenance
From time to time there may be some ground works that needs to completing include moving large quantities of leaves, strimming around the site, clearing garden clippings, clearing weeds from behind sheds etc or removing rubbish left on the premises. You would be working with our Estates committee to complete this work.
Building Maintenance
From time to time there may be some ground works that needs to completing include moving large quantities of leaves, strimming around the site, clearing garden clippings, clearing weeds from behind sheds etc or removing rubbish left on the premises. You would be working with our Estates committee to complete this work.
Admin
This would be working with any of our teams to provide your administration skills and could involve, filing, data entry to system, emailing or calling outside companies and members.
